Kasír a částečně hladovějící umělec Christopher Cross je naprosto okouzlen krásnou Kitty March. Kitty se tváří, že se o něj zajímá, ale ve skutečnosti ji zajímá pouze Johnny, drobný zločinec. Když Kitty a Johnny zjistí, že obchodníci s uměním mají zájem o Chrisovu práci, podvedou ho, aby Kitty mohla převzít zásluhy za obrazy. Cross to dovolí, protože je zamilovaný do Kitty, ale jeho láska jí dovolí jen tolik.
