Film Kwaidan, jehož název je odvozen od archaického japonského slova znamenajícího „příběh o duchovi,“ adaptuje čtyři lidové příběhy. Chudý samuraj se žení kvůli penězům s tragickými následky. Muž uvězněný v bouři je zachráněn Yukou, Sněžnou pannou, ale jeho záchrana přichází za cenu. Slepý hudebník Hoichi je nucen vystupovat pro publikum duchů. Autor vypráví příběh samuraje, který vidí odraz dalšího válečníka ve své šálce s čajem.
